What’s the difference between being on staff and being a freelancer? The short answer is about 250,000 jobs: as more and more magazines, newspapers, and wire services have cut costs by eliminating staff positions, they have increasingly turned to freelancers as a more economical and more flexible alternative. There are currently tens of thousands of freelancers and stringers who supply the vast majority of the images for all but the largest few dozen publications, and there are benefits and detriments for both sides. Each of our photographers has at least 2 of every piece of equipment with him at the wedding. If something breaks, the “on-call” photographer is called upon. He is equipped with a cell phone, a case filled with additional equipment, and a schedule for each wedding for that weekend.
What about security issues with the seller? These should be worked out prior to the appointment time. If possible, the photographer will avoid portraits, electronic equipment, etc.; however, any personal items or valuables that can be removed should be, before the photographer arrives.Mostly it depends on the type of services you would like to receive.
How come the pictures I take don’t look like Swift Shot’s? Swift Shot uses the best professional equipment available (which is prohibitively expensive for the recreational photographer). In addition, Swift Shot only uses skilled and talented photographers trained in the visual design and composition of photographs. Some do and some don’t. The question of whether an assistant is necessary is a personal one for the photographer. Some of our photographers feel that assistants get in the way and are an added distraction.

Having attended many weddings, an experienced wedding photographer will be at ease at your wedding. A professional also uses a printing company that meets high professional standards of print quality.Jim has not crossed into that territory yet. Mary has become a good photographer and launched her photography career with digital equipment. All of our film has been digitized, as a measure of “insurance” but with the exception of repairing some pinholes and scratches, no enhancements, cropping or other alterations have been done. What you see is exactly what has come off the 35mm film.
What happens if a camera or other equipment breaks down at my wedding? Each of our photographers has at least 2 of every piece of equipment with him at the wedding. If something breaks, the “on-call” photographer is called upon. He is equipped with a cell phone, a case filled with additional equipment, and a schedule for each wedding for that weekend. Is it advisable for our photographer to do the formals in medium format and the candids in 35mm? This depends on the methodology and philosophy of your photographer. I usually don’t because it complicates logistics (twice as much equipment and supplies to carry), and I can see a difference in image quality in a side-by-side comparison of group photographs or other compositions requiring resolution of detail. Many contemporary photographers employ the mix of formats using the advantages of each.
