Solar Panels Placed On Traffic Signs Help to Reduce Traffic Accidents

There are many reasons why the country has seen an increase in car accidents, especially fatal car accidents in the past five to 10 years.  Many people blame it on large semi-trucks; however the truth is that people are multitasking while they are driving and not paying attention to the roadways and especially the street signs or traffic signs that help people navigate their way safely to their destination.

A recent insurance company research survey found that the most distracted thing a driver could do is text on their cell phones while driving.  Texting is usually done by teenagers and young adult drivers and is very dangerous because it decreases a person’s awareness of their surroundings while driving up to 400 percent.  This is much more than a driver who has been drinking and gets behind the wheel.

Traffic signs that use solar panels to capture the sun’s ultraviolet rays to generate power to three or four flashing LED lights could help save lives as well as money to the towns and communities that use these special traffic signs.

A solar panel is placed on the pole of a traffic sign so that the sun’s ultraviolet rays can generate three or four flashing LED lights which would draw the attention of a distracted driver to the traffic or street sign so they may heed the warnings of the sign and possibly avoid accidents.  Four-way stops, when no one is around, can usually find a car or two running through the stop sign either because they know no one is watching or because they just simply do not see the stop sign. This is a dangerous situation especially if there is another car in the stop area and the first car simply does not see it and continues through the stop sign without stopping.  The LED flashing lights are designed to draw attention to the stop sign or other traffic sign so that driver will avoid an accident.

There will always be distracted drivers on the highways, streets and roadways; however solar paneled traffic signs will help these distracted drivers see warning signs because of their flashing LED lights moreover then they would regular non-flashing signs and this will help to save lives.
